UK Coastguard requested the launch of our Atlantic 85 lifeboat this afternoon following reports of a kite surfer in difficulty off the end of Porthcawl pier.
The kitesurfer was being monitored by National Coastwatch Institution – Porthcawl. A drop in wind speed meant itΒ was not strong enough for his foil kite board but he was managing to make slow progress in the direction of the beach using his kite.
As the lifeboat arrived on scene the kitesurfer had now made it into the surf zone and a crew member swam ashore to check the kite surfer required no further medical attention.
Once it was confirmed the kite surfer required no further assistance the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
