Porthcawl volunteer crew were tasked to a multi-agency incident by UK Coastguard following reports of a person who had fallen into the sea off Porthcawl Breakwater. Although in relatively shallow water the person was being swept eastwards across Sandy Bay by the tide and it was also thought that there would have been injuries following a fall of this nature.

As the casualty was in sight of the lifeboat station crew ran down the slipway ahead of the launch of the Station’s D Class lifeboat ‘Jean Ryall’ and secured the person from further danger. The lifeboat was used to carry the casualty back to the lifeboat station where an ambulance ferried the person to the Princess of Wales hospital Bridgend.
