The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was tasked by UK Coastguard to a report of a windsurfer in difficulties near Newton Point shortly after launching on a training exercise. Once on scene the crew quickly located the windsurfer who was inexperienced, but not in any danger and was under the instruction of an instructor. The crew stood by in Newton Bay until the windsurfer was safely back on the beach, with the call being a false alarm with good intent. The crew then resumed their training exercise.
