Our volunteers launched our lifeboats on service today following reports by RNLI lifeguards of persons cut off by the tide at Southerndown. Our D Class was first on scene and found the casualties cut off between Southerndown and Ogmore Deeps. A crewmember swam ashore to reassure the casualties and check if any further medical assistance was required. Due to the conditions on scene we were unable to safely extract the 2 casualties so requested the coastguard rescue helicopter to winch the casualties. Our lifeboats stood off until the helicopter arrived on scene. Once the casualties had been winched to safety our crewman was recovered back to the D Class lifeboat.
