Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard following a 999 call they had received from a person at Newton Point who had spotted a capazised kayaker who was in difficulties near Newton Point.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 Rose of the Shires was launched on service and made best speed to the location. The crew located a back pack and paddle floating off Trecco Bay as they transited to the reported position of the casualty before they located the kayaker clinging to his kayak as they proceeded on to Newton Bay.
The kayaker was taken onboard the lifeboat where he was checked over before the lifeboat returned back to the lifeboat station with the casualty onboard.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
