UK Coastguard tasked Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew along with Porthcawl Coastguard following a report a surfer had dislocated their shoulder at Rest Bay.

The crew made best speed to Rest Bay arriving on scene to find large surf conditions with 5-6 foot clean waves. The crew beached the lifeboat and attempted to locate the surfer who was believed to still be in the water in the shallows.

It was soon established the surfer had gone back to their car and was going to be driven to hospital by their partner.

Whilst searching for the casualty with the dislocated shoulder a further surfer was spotted getting swept onto rocks on the point at Rest Bay. Given the size of the swell and likelihood of sustaining an injury coming out onto the rocks, a crew member went across the rocks to check on the surfer to ensure no further medical attention was required.

The crew then made their way out through the surf and returned to the lifeboat station.
