UK Coastguard tasked Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew along with Porthcawl Coastguard following a report of a capsized kayak in Sandy Bay. The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Rose of the Shires was launched on service and the crew swiftly located the kayak, however there was no sign of the kayaker in the immediate area in which it was found.
Whilst the crew began a search of the area the kayaker made contact with the Coastguard by dialing 999 to advise he was ashore on the beach and safe and well.
The lifeboat was stood down by UK Coastguard and returned to the lifeboat station with the kayak and paddle onboard which were later collected by the kayaker.
