Both lifeboats were tasked by UK Coastguard to a report of two people in difficulty at Ogmore by Sea. The crew arrived on scene to find a father and 10 year old son had been assisted from the water by a surfer in fairly large surf conditions. Both casualties were found to be suffering the effects of having been in difficulty in the water and near drowning and were given casualty care by our crew. First Responders and Llantwit Major Coastguard both arrived on scene to assist our crew on the beach. Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust crews arrived shortly afterwards and took over the care of the casualties.

With the current spell of hot weather, please take extra care if you’re looking to cool off and #RespectTheWater. Visit a lifeguarded beach during patrol hours and swim between the red and yellow flags.

If you get into trouble, stay calm and #FloatToLive on your back until you can control your breathing.
