UK Coastguard paged Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew following a report of 3 people cut off by the incoming tide to the east of Monknash beach beneath the cliffs.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Rose of the Shires was launched on service and made best speed to the location.
Once the casualties had been located one of the crew swam ashore to speak with them. Although conditions were calm there was a small swell breaking onto the rocky shore line.
The casualties agreed to swim the short distance to the lifeboat in turn (around 15 metres), having been in the water swimming throughout the afternoon.
Once all casualties, their possessions and the crew member were recovered onto the lifeboat the casualties were transferred back to Monknash beach where they were dropped ashore and met by the team from Llantwit Major Coastguard.
