UK Coastguard tasked Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew following a report from a sailing vessel that had spotted three people cut off by the tide on a rocky outcrop at Newton Point. The charity’s D Class lifeboat, Hugo Missen was launched on service. Once on scene the crew located the three people who were fishing. Despite being cut off by the tide they were aware of the situation and planned to wait for the tide to recede. The lifeboat was stood down and returned to station with the call being a false alarm with good intent.
