Porthcawl’s volunteer RNLI crew were tasked by UK Coastguard following a report which had been received from Porthcawl NCI of a windsurfer who appeared to be in difficulties off Newton Point.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Rose of the Shires was launched on service in moderate to rough seas with wind gusts of up to Force 7.
Upon arriving on scene the crew located the windsurfer who had by this time made it into shallow water at the beach in Trecco Bay.
The crew confirmed with UK Coastguard and Porthcawl NCI that the windsurfer was the one they had concerns for and given the fact the windsurfer was now safely getting ashore onto the beach the lifeboat was stood down.
The lifeboat returned to station where it was made ready for service.
