Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were tasked by UK Coastguard to reports of a missing overdue rock angler. The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched on service to carry out a shore-line search from Ogmore to Southerndown.
With limited information on the angler’s exact whereabouts the Coastguard was reliant on a facebook video the angler had posted that evening to try and establish where the angler was. It was believed the video was taken either in the Ogmore or Barry area shortly before the angler’s phone battery ran out.
Porthcawl’s volunteer crew carried out a search for around an hour along with teams from Llantwit Major Coastguard and Barry Coastguard. Barry Dock RNLI also launched to conduct a search in the Barry area.
Numerous local anglers in the area were spoken to and it was eventually confirmed that the missing angler had left the area for home and was safe and well.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
