UK Coastguard requested the launch of Porthcawl new D Class lifeboat ‘Hugo Missen’ to assist a vessel which had suffered engine difficulties off Porthcawl whilst on passage towards Bristol. The Mumbles Lifeboat RNLI was also launched to assist with this incident. Due to it being a low spring tide there was no nearby accessible safe haven. The helm of our lifeboat and the coxswain of The Mumbles Lifeboat concurred that the best way to assist the casualty vessel would be to tow it to Porthcawl Marina once there was adequate tide.

As the casualty vessel had no anchor of its own it was held alongside The Mumbles Lifeboat which anchored off Porthcawl seafront until there was adequate tide to access Porthcawl Marina.

Porthcawl’s inshore lifeboats were launched  to take the vessel in tow later in the afternoon: Launch 4+5/22
