UK Coastguard tasked Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew after receiving a report of a person on a paddleboard with 2 people clinging to it drifting out to sea off Newton Point. The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Rose of the Shires was swiftly on scene, having just washed down following a training exercise. All 3 casualties were taken onboard the lifeboat, none of whom required any further medical attention. A 4th person had also been with the paddleboard but had swam ashore into Newton Point. The lifeboat dropped the 3 casualties ashore at Newton Beach where they were met by the Porthcawl Coastguard team who gave safety advice. Once it was confirmed that the 4th person was also safe and well, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
