Atlantic 85 lifeboat ‘Rose of the Shires’ was launched on service just after 6pm on Saturday evening following multiple 999 calls to UK Coastguard for a kite surfer in difficulty at Southerndown.
Our volunteer crew made best speed to the scene in rough seas. As the crew arrived on scene updated information from the first informant advised the kite surfer was now in the surf. The casualty was monitored until he was safely ashore and he then gave the crew a signal that all was okay.
Before departing the scene the crew spotted a family in an area of the beach which would be cut off by the incoming tide within the next hour. The family were encouraged to move across to the centre of the bay.
The lifeboat returned to station and was refuelled and made ready for service.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.
