UK Coastguard paged Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew along with Porthcawl Coastguard team following a report a person had been seen entering the water at Newton Beach wearing shorts but had not been seen returning.
The crew onboard the charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Rose of the Shires conducted a thorough search of the area on a parallel track to the shore firing white paraflares to illuminate the area and assist with the search. Porthcawl Coastguard team conducted a search from the shoreline.
With nothing found following a thorough search of the area our volunteer crew were stood down by UK Coastguard at around 1am with the call believed to be a false alarm with good intent.
The lifeboat was then refuelled, washed down and made ready for service by our volunteers before they returned home to their beds.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
