UK Coastguard tasked our crew to the aid of a dog walker who had slipped on rocks at Newton Beach. Our volunteer crew onboard our D Class lifeboat were first to arrive on scene, locating the casualty between Newton Slipway and Ogmore River. The crew provided casualty care for a suspected broken leg and ankle until the arrival of our colleagues from Porthcawl Coastguard and Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust

The casualty was stabilised and given pain relief by the paramedics and then, due to the remoteness of the location, transported in a stretcher onboard the charity’s D Class relief lifeboat ‘Super G II’ to the ambulance which was parked at Newton Slipway. The casualty’s dog was looked after by one of our crew and collected at the beach by a relative.
Once in hospital the casualty required surgery for injuries sustained and we wish them a speedy recovery as they recuperate at home. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was also launched to provide assistance should it be required.
