Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were tasked by HM Coastguard to a report of a kayaker in difficulty near Newton Point.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Rose of the Shires was launched on service and made best speed to the location. Once on scene the kayaker hanging to their inflatable kayak close to rocks at Newton Point. Two crew member went into the water to assist the kayaker. The crew and kayaker found themselves swept through a gully and further out to sea by the current. The lifeboat relocated to the other side of the gully and picked up the crew, casualty and their kayak.
