HM Coastguard paged Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew to assist two paddle boards in Newton struggling against the wind and tide. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat arrived and assisted both to shore. Whilst on the shore with the casualties a member of the public approached the crew member stating his wife was sea swimming and had not returned, last seen 30 minutes ago in the water towards Newton Buoy.
HM Coastguard requested the Atlantic 85 carry out a search of Newton Bay and the D Class lifeboat ‘Hugo Missen’ was also tasked to assist (launch 31 and 32). The casualty was located on shore safe and well after around 20 minutes. Porthcawl Coastguard and Port Talbot Coastguard were also tasked to assist with the search.
