Porthcawl’s volunteer crew were tasked at 7.37pm to assist 4 teenage girls who were trapped on the Porthcawl side of the Ogmore river. The girls had been located near to the river mouth by the team from Llantwit Major Coastguard and were cold as temperatures had dropped significantly as darkness fell.
Having set out earlier in the day the girls found themselves unable to get back to the Ogmore side of the river as the tide had come in during the afternoon. As a result they were unable to get back across to their parents who were waiting for them.
The girls were assisted across the river by our crew onboard the charity’s D Class lifeboat ‘Super G II.’ Once transferred to the Ogmore side of the river they were met by the team from Llantwit Major Coastguard along with their parents.
With large spring tides and good weather forecast over the weekend this is a timely reminder to check tide times if you live close enough to exercise on the coast. Please #BeCoastSafe and #RespectTheWater.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
