Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were tasked by HM Coastguard to locate two people who were cut off by the tide at Ogmore Deeps, below the cliffs at West Farm.
Both the charity’s Atlantic 85 Rose of the Shires and D Class Hugo Missen were launched on service and made best speed to the location due to the rapidly incoming tide. The Atlantic 85 arrived first on scene and located the casualties shortly after beginning a search from Ogmore Deeps. Two crew from the Atlantic 85 swam ashore to reassure the casualties and prepare them ready for being rescued.
When the D class crew arrived on scene shortly afterwards the helm carried out an assessment and made the decision the safest way to rescue the casualties was by veering back on their anchor line. The helm was able to manouevre the lifeboat alongside a ledge from which the casualties could step aboard the lifeboat.
Both casualties were then transferred to Ogmore By Sea by the Atlantic 85 lifeboat and dropped onto the slipway by the D Class lifeboat.
The lifeboats was then stood down from the incident and returned to station.
