Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were tasked by HM Coastguard to assist RNLI lifeguard colleagues with a kite surfer who had a foiling board who was in difficulty off Rhych Point following a drop in the wind.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 Rose of the Shires was launched on service. The kite surfer was been assisted by an RNLI lifeguard on a paddle board. Once on scene they took the kite surfer and his equipment onboard the lifeboat and dropped him off to the beach at Sandy Bay (Coney Beach). The lifeguard made their own way back to shore.
The lifeboat was then stood down from the incident and returned to station.
