The D Class was returning to station from an earlier callout and spotted a man and his dog in the river mouth at Ogmore who appeared to be in difficulty. They were being swept upstream by the incoming tide. He waved to request assistance from the lifeboat. He had been attempting to cross the river and had misjudged the depth, rapidly finding himself in difficulty. The lifeboat quickly responded and secured the casualty alongside the lifeboat where he was recovered to the safety of the river bank. At this time his dog had made its own way ashore safely. The casualty was otherwise unharmed by his ordeal and we handed him over to the team from Llantwit Major Coastguard on the Ogmore side of the river.
