UK Coastguard tasked Porthcawl’s volunteer RNLI crew to assist with the extraction of a casualty in a multi-agency incident at Box Bay in the cove area of Rest Bay.
The casualty had fallen and sustained ankle injuries along with a possible lower back injury and due to the fast incoming tide the extraction was time critical. Casualty care was provided by Porthcawl Coastguard and Port Talbot Coastguard until the arrival of HART paramedics. The casualty was immobilised and carried to the lifeboat on a basket stretcher and then transferred along with a HART paramedic back to the lifeboat station to be met by a land ambulance. The HART paramedic who stayed with the casualty on the lifeboat is coincidentally a volunteer helm at RNLI Penarth Lifeboat Station.
We wish the casualty a fast and full recovery.
