HM Coastguard tasked Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew following a report a windsurfer may be in difficulty in Newton Bay during the tail end of #StormKathleen. The charity’s Atlantic 85 Rose of the Shires was launched on service.
Following a thorough search of the area by Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew, HM Coastguard’s rescue helicopter and Coastguard Rescue Teams it was established the call was a false alarm with good intent. It was established that the first informant had spotted the yellow Newton buoy bobbing in the bay and mistook it for a windsurfer that was down.
Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were stood down from the incident and the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service.
To report something of concern or get help on the coast dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
