Porthcawl’s volunteer RNLI crew were diverted from their training exercise by HM Coastguard to a report of a dog in difficulty in the water at Newton Point.

The dog’s owner had called the Coastguard on 999 after becoming concerned for its safety. Our crew onboard the D Class lifeboat arrived on scene within minutes and spotted people on the shore waving to them. The crew established that the dog had made it back to the shore unaided.

The owners did the right thing by calling the Coastguard on 999 and then calling to their dog from a place of safety where it was able to get out.
