Porthcawl RNLI are mourning the loss of former fundraiser, Marj Abraham and the station flag currently flies at half mast.

Station chair Ian Stroud said:

‘Marj Abraham was a stalwart when it came to raising money for the RNLI and personally raised over £70,000 for the life-saving charity. In 2021 Marj received her 20 year long service medal in recognition of her volunteering for the charity from RNLI CEO, Mark Dowie. Marj was well known for her annual patchwork quilt raffle. During the winter months Marj and friends would spend their time making the quilts. Come spring Marj would sit outside the Porthcawl RNLI gift shop selling raffle tickets that gave purchasers the opportunity to win one of the beautiful quilts.

‘Marj was very proud of our volunteer crew and was a very loyal supporter to her late husband John, who was chair of both the Porthcawl RNLI operational and fundraising committees until retiring in February 2018.

‘We are incredibly grateful for all Marj did in giving her time voluntarily to raise such a significant sum to help us save lives at sea here in Porthcawl. All at Porthcawl RNLI send our sincere condolences to Marj’s family.’
