Three Porthcawl friends have set themselves a very tough challenge, they have planned to drive to Snowdonia and then climb Snowdon on the same day, 7 Sept. They decided to raise money for charity and chose Porthcawl RNLI as beneficiaries.

The three, Jemma Sullivan, Janine Kelly and Kim Roberts work together at the Hi Tide Inn. Jemma said, ‘Throughout the second lockdown we started walking to pass away the days, anything between 10-20 miles at a time, including a climb up Pen Y Fan. Since going back to work we haven’t had the time to keep up our walking, so we decided to do one special walk and challenge ourselves by climbing Snowdon. This gave us the idea to raise money for charity and we chose Porthcawl RNLI Lifeboat. All their volunteers do so much for our town, along the heritage coast as far east as Llantwit Major on a daily basis, coastal users would be lost without them!’

David Shillaw, chair of fundraising at Porthcawl RNLI said, ‘We are very grateful to the young ladies for considering us, our charity fundraising was hit badly by the pandemic.’
