Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were requested to relaunch by HM Coastguard having recovered from Launch 81/25 – 📟 5.57pm following reports that two children were in difficulty in the water off Ogmore by Sea.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Rose of the Shires was launched on service and made best speed to the location. Once on scene they located a teenage girl who was rescued and taken onboard the lifeboat. A teenage boy who had been with the girl had swam to a nearby paddleboarder and already been assisted ashore to the beach. The girl was dropped ashore by the crew and both of the teenagers who needed no further medical attention were then reunited with their mother.
If you ever find yourself in difficulty in the water, remember Float to Live:
- Tilt your head back with ears submerged
- Relax, breathe normally and move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
- It’s ok if your legs sink, we all float differently
- Once you’re over the initial shock, call for help or swim to safety
If you need help or spot anyone else in difficulty at the coast, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
