Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard following concerns raised by our RNLI Lifeguards South East Wales colleagues at Rest Bay.
The RNLI lifeguards had contacted the coastguard regarding a paddleboarder near Kenfig Patches around 1 mile from the shore. The charity’s D Class Hugo Missen was launched on service. The crew made best speed to the location and located the paddleboarder who was not familiar with local tides and currents. The casualty was content to continue with his paddle, however after some persuasion from the crew the casualty accepted the offer for a lift back to shore.
If you’re heading out paddle boarding or to the coast this week please check conditions and tides before you go using a trusted online source such as the Met Office.
Always carry a means to call for help such as a mobile phone in a waterproof pouch and wear a buoyancy aid suited to your activity.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
