Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were alerted over VHF radio by HM Coastguard following concerns for 2 paddleboarders located between Irongate point and Hutchwns point.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Rose of the Shires had just been recovered from the earlier launch no. 43/25 and was immediately relaunched on service. Once on scene it was established the casualties were safe and well and had all the necessary safety equipment. They had a dog with them and intended to continue onwards around Hutchwns point and exit onto the rocks at the other side. The lifeboat stayed with them until they were safely ashore and then were stood down and returned to the lifeboat station.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
If you ever find yourself in difficulty in the water, remember Float to Live:
- Tilt your head back with ears submerged
- Relax, breathe normally and move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
- It’s ok if your legs sink, we all float differently
- Once you’re over the initial shock, call for help or swim to safety
Remember it. Practise it. Share it.
