UK Coastguard tasked our volunteer crew to assist three people in difficulty in the water at Ogmore river mouth. The team from Llantwit Major Coastguard were also tasked to the incident.
The charity’s relief Atlantic 85 lifeboat Irene Cornford was launched on service making best speed to the river mouth. As the lifeboat proceeded to the scene the three casualties were rescued and safely brought to shore by members of Penybont Surf Lifesaving Club. Llantwit Major Coastguard team members checked over the wellbeing of the casualties before returning to station.
The incident is a reminder of how water currents at the river mouth and tidal flow can carry you into difficulty. We strongly advise you to visit a lifeguarded beach this summer during patrol hours and swim between the red and yellow flags.
In a coastal emergency DIAL 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
The health crisis has hit our income hard. Lockdown halted the fundraising events we rely on to power our lifesaving service. Support our volunteer crew by donating to: Porthcawl RNLI Lifesavers’ Fund 2021.
