Between 7 to 24 March this year Jez Perkins will climb to Everest base camp while raising funds for the RNLI towards Saving Lives At Sea. Jez recently called into the lifeboat station at Porthcawl where he met some of the crew.

Jez said, ‘Having grown up in Porthcawl I spent as much time as I could surfing in Coney Beach or Rest Bay. I was well aware of the work of the RNLI volunteer crew at Porthcawl and saw this trip as a great opportunity to support them. To me the RNLI is an integral part of the coast line providing a vital service for locals and holiday makers alike. Therefore if I could help in some way by raising money through this trip that can only be a good thing.’

Jez who now lives in Shefford, Bedfordshire works as an estates manger for a number of large public and private estates across Hertfordshire. He manages numerous large public and private estates across Hertfordshire maximising their value for biodiversity through appropriate habitat management and species conservation whilst providing a important open space for the local community.

Jez is no stranger to challenges of this nature and in the past he has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (the worlds highest free standing mountain) plus a few routes up in the Himalayas of north India.  He also likes taking part in challenging long distance walks and in 2018 completed a 54 mile route which qualified him to enter the Hadrian Hundred which is a non stop 100 mile route in Northumberland in May 2019.

Porthcawl lifeboat operations manager Phil Missen said, ‘our launches are only possible through our fantastic supporters like Jez and we wish him all the best with his upcoming challenge.’
