The volunteer crew were paged following a report of people potentially cut off by the tide and reported to be flashing a light somewhere between Ogmore Deeps and Southerndown. Both the Atlantic 85 and D Class lifeboat conducted a search of the area along with Llantwit Major Coastguard. Once the first informant was located by the coastguard team the A85 lifeboat stood off a group of fishermen in the area of Ogmore Deeps. The first informant was able to confirm the light had been coming from that area and none of the fishermen indicated to the lifeboat they required assistance. The lifeboats were stood down – the call being a false alarm with good intent.

Never be afraid to contact UK Coastguard via 999 or 112 should you have concerns that someone could be in trouble or if you spot something untoward on the coast.
