Both lifeboats were launched on service at the request of UK Coastguard to extract a casualty from Kenfig Sands (Sker Beach) who had fallen from a horse. Heavy fog and the casualty’s remote location meant extraction by lifeboat was the safest option. The casualty had suspected pelvic injuries. We met ambulance paramedics at the beach along with Porthcawl Coastguard and Port Talbot Coastguard Teams who helped transfer the casualty into the D Class lifeboat. Once in deeper water the casualty was transferred to the larger Atlantic 85 and brought back to the lifeboat station with a paramedic onboard. The lifeboat was met by a land ambulance at the lifeboat station.Â
