UK Coastguard paged our volunteer crew earlier today following a report of a swimmer who was in difficulty in Sandy Bay. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched on service and arrived on scene to find the swimmer had made it into shallower water. A crew member left the boat to assist the swimmer from the water and was met by our colleagues from RNLI Lifeguards South East Wales who had responded from Trecco Bay. (The RNLI lifeguards are no longer patrolling Sandy Bay however they are still patrolling the nearby beach of Trecco Bay).

The Porthcawl Coastguard Team arrived on scene and assisted with escorting the swimmer to the lifeguard station where they were checked over by paramedics.
