UK Coastguard tasked our volunteer crew to assist a group of 14 people cut off by the tide on the Porthcawl side of the Ogmore River.

A concerned member of the public had contacted the coastguard as they were worried the group may attempt to cross the river. Both the Atlantic 85 and D Class lifeboats were launched with the crew of the Atlantic 85 arriving on scene first. Crew from the Atlantic went ashore to speak with the casualties. The group were not from the local area and had crossed the river earlier in the day at low water. They were unaware of the large tidal range we get in the Bristol Channel. All were transferred across the river by the D Class lifeboat and were met on the Ogmore side by Llantwit Major Coastguard.
