Our volunteer crew were tasked by UK Coastguard to a surfer in difficulty on the Vale of Glamorgan coastline. A surfer had been swept around a headland by a rip current and was trapped by the tide against cliffs. Porthcawl’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched on service for the first time of the year and located the surfer beneath the cliffs.

When the surfer spotted the lifeboat arriving on scene he paddled out from the shore and was assisted onboard the lifeboat in heavy surf by the lifeboat crew.

Once safely onboard, the lifeboat returned to station with the casualty who required no further medical attention.Β Llantwit Major CoastguardΒ and the UK Coastguard helicopter were also tasked to the incident. The Coastguard helicopter was delayed as it was in West Wales at the time.
