Both the Atlantic 85 and D Class lifeboats launched to two persons cut off by the tide near Witches Point in an area known as Temple Bay. They had attempted to climb up the cliff face. Upon arrival of our lifeboats the casualties made their way back down to the bottom of the cliff. A crew member was dropped in close by the D Class and swam ashore to reassure the casualties. Given conditions on scene (large swell and big surf) the safest method of recovery was by helicopter. Both casualties were winched by the Coastguard Helicopter from St Athan whilst our lifeboats stood by to provide cover for the casualties. The helicopter dropped the casualties at the cliff top where they were met by Llantwit Major Coastguard team. Our Atlantic 85 then retrieved our crew man and both lifeboats returned to station.
