UK Coastguard requested the launch of our Atlantic 85 lifeboat to assist a yacht which had suffered engine failure and was being hampered by bad weather, with wind speed gusting to Force 6 approximately 8NM South West of Porthcawl. The yacht was in close proximity to Scarweather sand bank and at risk of running aground. Our volunteers made best speed to the casualty vessel being directed onto their position by National Coastwatch Institution – Porthcawl who had visual of the casualty. Once on scene two crewmembers were placed onboard the yacht and it was taken under tow towards Swansea. Our lifeboat was met by our colleagues from The Mumbles Lifeboat RNLI who took over the tow taking the vessel into the safety of Swansea Marina.
