A service will be held at All Saints Church, Porthcawl in memory of those lost at Sker Point seventy years ago. Porthcawl’s combined rescue services made up of Porthcawl Fire and Rescue, Porthcawl Unit of UK Coastguard Agency and Porthcawl RNLI together with Porthcawl Museum will remember the tragedy of the liberty ship ‘SS Samtampa’ and the RNLI’s Mumbles lifeboat ‘Edward, Prince of Wales’. Crews of both vessels, forty seven in total, perished in a raging storm that swept up the Bristol Channel on 23rd April 1947.

All those who wish to join us in remembering those who were lost in the tragedy are welcome to attend.
